SOLVO on New Tech for Ports & Terminals at Annual 'Technology for Ports: Effective Investments 2017' Conference

4 October 2017

SOLVO recently took part in the fifth annual “Technology for Ports: Effective Investments 2017” Conference, which was held on September 21, 2017 at the Expoforum center in Saint Petersburg, Russia.

This year, the key objectives were: discussing ways to raise competitiveness and productivity of stevedoring companies; speeding up operations and reducing expenses related to cargo processing; as well as unveiling new technologies and features for cargo handling at ports and terminals.

SOLVO’s TOS Commercial Director, Maxim Maximov, presented a report on cutting edge technologies, which are being gradually rolled out at Russian and foreign ports to help solve key problems and optimize logistics processes.

Maximov discussed such relevant technologies as:

  • optical character recognition for trucks, rail cars, flatcars and containers;
  • automatic detection of container defects;
  • using voice technology solutions at container terminals as an alternative to traditional data capture methods.

Moreover, Maximov presented an overview of state-of-the-art security systems for container terminals, explaining the prospects of implementing robotized equipment at Russian ports.

This is not the first year that this conference has gathered top managers, engineers, IT specialists, economists, and representatives from port equipment suppliers, as well as independent experts.

The conference was organized under the auspices of the Commercial Seaports Association committee for technology and mechanization. For many years already, SOLVO has been the only fully-fledged IT company member of the association thanks in part to its well-established relationship with the Russian Port Society.
