18 September 2014

On September 11, 2014, the Baltic Transport Forum VI was held in Saint Petersburg dedicated to issues regarding the transport business within Russia’s and the EU’s legal framework, increasing competition for cargo in Baltic seaports, problems and changes in rail shipping, international shipping via road and much more.

The given event included over 50 organizations with representatives from government agencies and businesses interested in the Baltic Sea region. Traditionally, SOLVO was always a sponsor of the event and this year was no different.

Maxim Maximov, Commercial Director at SOLVO, presented a report titled “How New Technology Can Help Baltic Stevedores Raise their Quality of Service and Become More Competitive under Varying Cargo Flow Volume Conditions.”

The report included a brief analysis of changes in cargo flow volumes in Russian ports while taking into account the influence of political and economic factors on the activity of stevedoring companies in the Baltic region. The issue of lowering operational expenses and increasing the quality of service by implementing state of the art information technologies was also in the spotlight, which was exemplified by specific SOLVO projects at the Riga Container Terminal and Container Terminal Saint Petersburg.

Event attendees showed particular interest in the opportunities presented by new modules for load handling equipment, automatic reefer monitoring systems, electronic driver queues and container terminal KPI.
