First Container Terminal, National Container Company Holding
"The First Container Terminal Inc., National Container Company Holding, is the largest enterprise that offers sea containers transshipments in Russia . The Container Terminal Management System developed by Solvo Ltd. went live in 2001. CTMS deployment is a key element and guarantees substantial increase in through-put. Through 2001 till 2003 the through-put has grown by two and a half time. In comparison with 1999 turnover increased 4 times more and now reached 600,000 TEU.
Container Terminal Management System developed by Solvo Ltd. went live in 2001. Solvo.CTMS deployment was a key element in guaranteeing a substantial increase in through-put. Solvo.CTMS automates all container processing operations. An operative planning modulus provides container stowage optimization. CTMS offers the best interaction with various types of container handling equipment such as gantry cranes, automotive container carriers and others. GPS is used to control container stowage. Electronic data exchange is available through standard international data interchange protocol (EDIFACT).
Solvo.CTMS is a complex software suite. It is comprised of more than 50 workplaces, equipped with RF terminals and several tens of permanent PC workplaces. The system allows the optimization of container processing in container yards (total territory is over 330,000 sq.m.) through the help of container handling equipment and computerized control over load/discharge from vessels and automotive transport in the operational areas.
The following statistics are available regarding the results of deploying the CTMS system: idle running's reduced by half; productivity of container handling equipment has increased by 20-25%, while utilization costs reduced considerably.
Another important key towards success is an integration of the financial and technology documentation system with Solvo.CTMS implemented by Solvo staff in cooperation with the IT department of the First Container Terminal.
As a result of the growth of terminal capacity, the ROI evaluation period took 9 months.
With the extension of the container terminal and new types of container handling equipment and new operational areas utilization, the system functionality has been constantly developing and being enhanced. Leveraging four years experience of close cooperation with Solvo specialists, we created a system that yields to no western systems and is light-years ahead of our competition. Initially developed to meet the needs of Russian companies, the system has many unique aspects that western systems don't offer, such as handling customs related issues. Solvo.CTMS meets common international standards. It was confirmed by all liner operators dealing with the Sea Port of St. Petersburg. The First Container Terminal continues to actively cooperate with Solvo on the implementation of new vessel processing technological systems. Additionally, Solvo staff provides 24 hour systems support in order to ensure that Solvo.CTMS is always in ready mode ".
